About this illustration

The journey using the Australian Curriculum has involved developing trust and distributed leadership among staff. The Australian Curriculum has provided a common language and moderation; using the achievement standards and work samples ensures common goals for students. Teams of teachers plan units of work and can include the literacy coordinator, teacher librarian, gifted and talented coordinator, class teachers and the digital learning specialist. Using “Curriculum on a page”, formatted by the Australian Independent Schools (AIS) Western Australia, the teachers choose content descriptions, which can be integrated and incorporate the big ideas of the curriculum, to develop enquiry questions for their students. Referencing the achievement standards, the teachers develop learning intentions for each learning area. Rich assessment is developed by the staff to enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
